STIGA Advance Table Tennis Table - An Overview
STIGA Advance T8621 also known as Advance is an entry-level product from the house of STIGA (pronounced as Steega).
It’s an indoor Table Tennis table that sports the following specs:
- Dimensions: 9 x 5 ft
- Height: 2 ft 6″
- Top thickness: 1/2″ (12.5 mm)
- Surface top color: Green
It’s a relatively decent table for starters, but there are way better options.
STIGA Advantage, another table from STIGA is way superior in every department, and it’s in the same price category.
So, it won’t make much sense to get the inferior STIGA Advance Indoor Table Tennis table as it pales in comparison to the newer STIGA Advantage.
Is STIGA Advance T8621 Foldable?
Yes, it is.
STIGA Advance has two separate halves which can be folded. It also has 2″ double wheel casters for better portability.
1/2″ steel apron, and 1″ self opening legs add a feather to the cap. For easy storage, its playing surface can also be tilted in an upright position.
This way, if you don’t have a robot, one side can be used as a virtual opponent.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive table for indoor use, STIGA Advance Table Tennis table can be an option, but it doesn’t do its name much justice.
If you’re from the future (which you probably are), go for STIGA Competition.
Should You Buy STIGA Advance?
No, there are way better options in the price range.
Unless you skipped straight to this section, you’d already know this by now! STIGA Advance Table Tennis table is, at best, an average table for casual play.
Not only is it priced higher than most tables in the category, it leaves a lot to be desired. A 1/2″ (12 mm) surface thickness won’t do you any good either.
Even if you’re just starting out, do yourself a justice and pick a table that has at least 5/8″ surface thickness (> 16 mm).
Don’t settle for anything lesser, or bounce from the table will be non-existent.
STIGA Advance does have 1/2″ steel apron below the playing surface and some protection around the corners but this isn’t enough.
Unlike the competition, Its wheels are not re-adjustable though. If you don’t have a level playing surface, setting up this table won’t be any less than a chore.
Moreover, it doesn’t meet the ITTF standards either. It comes bundled with a 5 ft 6″ net which isn’t quite 6 feet (which is the standard).
If you wondered, here’s a video that shows the table in action:
STIGA Assembly Instructions
To assemble it, You’ll need a few wrenches and screwdrivers.
The two table tops are easy to assemble, but to complete the assembly process, you need at least two people.
The setup shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes of your time, though. Here’s an instruction manual (in PDF format) if you were looking for one.
This brings us to the conclusion of this brief review.
STIGA Advantage Table Tennis table is a fairly decent offering, but it’s nothing special, and there are way better alternatives out there.
STIGA Competition is by far the best table in the price range. Not only is it a better product, it’s from the same reputed manufacturer.
Since it’s better, it will make no sense to choose STIGA Advantage over it.
